Star Trek: Space Hunt by the Captain Sonar System
Matagot Games in partnership with Gale Force Nine are proud to announce the upcoming release of Star Trek: Space Hunt, a high-stakes, team-based game of starship combat. Merging the legendary Star Trek universe with the award-winning mechanics of the SONAR system, this title offers a seamless transition from underwater warfare to the final frontier.
A New Frontier for Tabletop Combat
Star Trek: Space Hunt is a real-time, hidden-movement game for 2-4 players that demands intense coordination and sharp deduction. Players are divided into two opposing crews, each commanding iconic starships from across the franchise's history with each vessel featuring unique builds for asymmetric gameplay.
The game covers several generations of the saga, allowing players to step into the roles of legendary duos such as Captain Kirk and Spock, Captain Picard and Data, or even the formidable Khan and Joachim.
Preserving the Core, Expanding the Galaxy
While the game retains the addictive core mechanics that made Captain Sonar a global success, Space Hunt introduces new thematic layers:
- Key Crew Roles: Teams are split into two essential roles: the Captain, who moves the ship and manages energy, and the Second, who tracks enemy movements through space.
- Energy Management: Movement generates energy, which can be diverted to tactical systems including Scan, Invisibility, Blackout, Hyperspace Warp, and Torpedoes.
- Flexible Playstyles: While designed for the adrenaline of real-time play, an optional Academy Mode provides a turn-based experience for new recruits and casual games.
- The Mission to Win: To secure victory, crews must successfully destroy an enemy base before locating and dealing the final blow to the opposing ship.
The First in a New Series
Star Trek: Space Hunt marks the first installment in a planned series from Matagot that will pair the Star Trek license with popular, proven gaming systems. By blending the "SONAR" system’s tension with a legendary saga, Matagot aims to deliver a captivating and memorable experience for both hardcore gamers and Trek fans alike.
